I hate to crowdsource, but I need some book recommendations. I’ve got a summer reading stack going, but I realized yesterday that I can’t spend five weeks reading William Gaddis poolside.
So, things that are engrossing/suspenseful? Detective stories welcome, as are Secret History-ish things.
Stories about white people living in Brooklyn or Los Feliz and having Feelings need not...

I think it’s time to admit that I get choked up every time the Harry Potter commercial comes on, and that I will fight any person who tries to shame me for it.
I don’t like when someone asks me to do something and then says I ‘may do it’.
Example: “Can I borrow your apple-corer? You may bring it over at 3 this afternoon.”

OK, yes, I’m going to miss driving to Gelson’s with the windows rolled down so that my hair blows around while the rap radio station is turned up as loudly as it can be in a Prius.

‘Antimassacar’ sounds like a social or political viewpoint, and also like the title of a novel I’d want to read, but it’s actually a small (usually embroidered) cloth placed carefully over the backs of chair/sofa cushions to prevent hair oil (Massacar, as in ‘thine incomparable oil, Massacar’) from staining the fabric.

One summer when I was stuck in Philadelphia*, my grandmother signed me up for the library’s Summer Reading Club, wherein kids with nothing to do were supposed to keep track of the books we read, with a prize being given to the most voracious reader.
